Time management skills

If you are a young adult aged 18 – 30 years, this fact sheet is for you.

Benjamin Franklin said that if you love life you shouldn`t squander time because “that’s the stuff life is made of “. Carl Sandburg also links time and life by saying; “Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it

will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you”.

Time is a special resource that you cannot store or save for later use. Everyone has the exact same amount of time each day. Time not well used cannot be retrieved. Time is limited to 24 hours a day, so it has to be planned wisely. This factsheet contains information that will help you understand time management and the skills you need to manage your time including skills for;

  • Overcoming barriers to time management
  • Overcoming time wasters
  • Making and managing daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedules
  • Making a to-do list
  • Managing and overcoming procrastination

Time management is important for your personal life and career/academic, and business success.

We all need some free time to relax and unwind but, unfortunately, many of us don’t get much free time because we’re too busy trying to keep up with our daily activities and workload. By implementing time management skills, you will be able to get more done in a shorter period of time leading to more free time
